Hi, I’m Becky.

You started a small business, joined a band, or helped run a local festival, and suddenly you’re expected to master social media, build a website, and pitch the media, too. I get it. I’ve spent more than 20 years in media, helping people figure out how to tell their stories in a way that actually works.

More About Me

I grew up on a horse farm north of Toronto, surrounded by reining horses, Australian Shepherds, and community theatre. Most of my childhood stories involve early mornings at horse shows or late nights backstage.

I spent two decades working in radio, where I met fascinating people and did some pretty cool stuff. I’m best known for my work as a talk show producer at NewsTalk1010 in Toronto and as a morning show co-host and assistant music director at 820 CHAM in Hamilton. (Name a radio format or station role, and I’ve probably done it.)

In 2017, I received the RTDNA Peter Gzowski Award for Best News Information Program for my audio documentary Suffering in Silence. (Listen here)

Burnt out, I left the radio business and started Becky Coles Media. I saw how many small business owners, musicians, and community organizers were struggling to promote themselves in a digital world that felt built for someone else. They were smart, capable, and passionate, but they needed someone to simplify the plan.

Now I work with them directly, teaching the same storytelling, communication, and promotion strategies I learned through broadcasting.  (And because I can’t quite leave media behind, I also produce podcasts and handle PR communications for select projects.)

I Believe

For most small businesses, community groups, and bands, promotion isn’t about chasing trends or mastering algorithms; it’s about connection and consistency.   You don’t need to go viral; you just need to be visible.

When I talk about showing up, I mean literally showing up. At your events. On your social media. In your community. Because being invisible won’t get you customers, clients, or fans.

With the right guidance, anyone (yes, even those who “aren’t tech people”) can learn how to market themselves effectively. You don’t need a big budget. You just need a plan that fits your life and the courage to start.

What I Do

I help small businesses, indie musicians, and community festivals understand the basics of promotion and media so they can build confidence and momentum.

Here’s how:
- Courses: Step-by-step lessons that simplify promotion, social media, and PR basics.
- Coaching: One-on-one support to create a personalized promotion plan that fits your goals.
- Resources: Templates, guides, and practical tools to help you stay consistent and confident.

Whether you’re trying to get your first newspaper mention, boost ticket sales for your event, or finally post on social media without dread, I’ll help you figure out what to do (and what to stop doing.)

Why Me?

People come to me because they’re tired and overwhelmed and don’t have the big budget to hire a firm.  They want honest feedback, real strategy, and practical tools that actually work.

I bring:
- 20+ years in broadcasting and media relations
- Hands-on experience with artists, small businesses, and grassroots organizations
- A tough-love approach (empathetic, but no excuses)
- Proven frameworks to simplify how you show up and stand out

My goal isn’t to make you an influencer. We’re way too old for that! It’s to help you build trust, consistency, and visibility so your business or project can thrive long-term.

It CAN be simple!
